Midnight Classes

sleep-in-class 2

There are some universities that will teach a midnight class, if the student is willing to go to a class in their pajamas and bring a robe, and must be clean.  Body odor and a pillow is a prerequisite. On the other hand, they get to have great parking spaces near the classroom at night. And no, it’s not astronomy class at night.

Nevada https://www.csn.edu/ is one of the colleges that offer midnight classes.  The 2-year college with 12 campuses in southern Nevada, including the main campus in Las Vegas, chose to offer midnight classes in the spring 2010 semester due to an increase in enrollment–of approximately 8,000 students from spring 2009 to spring 2010, said Johnson. The Nevada school offered sections of biology and math in the spring, and are expanding offerings for the fall to include astronomy. “What better time to offer astronomy then at midnight?” Johnson said. The classes all were held in one building adjacent to the biology labs, but otherwise, the classes were the same without any modifications–except for the time of day. The lectures remain nearly similar to that of their morning counterparts, and the same laboratories and times are given to students. Johnson said many of the college’s students work second shift at casinos, so “for them, midnight is their noon.” Mary Bennett, the professor of Southern Nevada’s midnight biology class, said that the course ran the exact same way as her daytime courses. “I am a very lively teacher so falling asleep is not allowed in my class,” she said. The only difference that she noticed between a midnight and daytime course was “the great parking.” Johnson and her staff aren’t alone in scheduling classes at unusual hours.

“We have a 24-hour town here, this is when our students work,” said Sally Johnson, dean of the School of Math and Science at the College of Southern Nevada.

Bunker Hill Community College in Boston http://www.bhcc.mass.edu/ and Clackamas Community College  https://www.clackamas.edu/ in Oregon have already had successful introductions to midnight courses.

At Bunker Hill, the college offers introductory English and psychology classes at midnight. Because of overflowing attendance in the day time, they were other options too, online course, but some of the students wanted to take a midnight class instead.

Clackamas Community College initially offered a midnight welding course one night per week; it became so popular, that it was extended to four nights a week.

Anne Arundel Community College http://www.aacc.edu/  in Maryland is planning to offer midnight sections of psychology in the fall.

Also, big name universities places in California and New York and other popular universities are offering classes after midnight.

The extra assignments, if they want to pass a class, is to bring food and share it with the rest of the class, they must stay awake for a pop quiz. You can’t sleep on a quiz. It wouldn’t be a pop quiz.

How to be a teacher

Rick Zano was nominated for Top Teacher Award on the Kelly and Michael show this week.  He teaches world history at Princess Anne High School in Virginia. He knows how to motivate his students into learning.

Which is good, I know we have good teachers out there, but there some bad ones too, which is terrible.  I wish all teachers were entertaining and creative in the classroom. Some do not know how to be entertaining, that’s why students sleep in class, put make up on, do their hair, and order pizza in class with their cell phone.

World history seem to be easy when the teacher can dress in different characters and talk about the character that he was in.  But how can we do it for the worst subjects that students can’t learn and wish their teacher can motivate their student to learn and understand the subject matter a little better? Subjects like Math, Spanish and Chemistry. Someone can dress up like Einstein every day of the school? Until the student got the message, that their teacher was really Einstein.

Students need to understand mathematics for they can be engineers design and built things to make our lives much better. For science to understand and how things work. For chemistry a cure for cancer and live longer and stay longer forever.

When we watch a movie on the DVD, switch the language settings to Spanish, that’s how I learn how to speak Spanish and some catch phrases too.  The other day, I switch the language settings on my Star Wars DVD to Spanish and it was hilarious to watch and listen.

There are opportunities out there for us to work, you may not like it, but we must work, just make your job as an adventure. Take your class for a journey.

There are some teachers who will have inappropriate relationship with a student, the student think they will get an easy A.  Do these teachers know when they have a relationship with a student they will get fired from the job? That’s a no-brainier situation. Stop doing this. A student  will tell no matter if the student either failing or passing the class.

So please teachers who are teaching our children, be creative and entertaining in the classroom. Students need that visual learning from their teachers.

Are students really smart?

High School and Middle school students think they could get away without being caught when they write a paper, and the teacher would give the student a failing grade, because the paper. The paper was identical to one of the smartest students who handed to the teacher in the beginning of the class. Student’s think they are David Copperfield, a fame magician who uses sleight of hand tricks, but for students, their sleight of hand tricks could get a slap of the hand by the ruler.

When would teenagers ever learn not to copy and paste, but give the right sources or some documentation to the paper? Do they know how to read and summarize and then give the citation sources? The teacher is giving all the resources to the students, and the students are not using the resource’s material that was given? Students don’t care.

And why do students have to procrastinate at the last minute. Cramming everything within a twenty-four-hour period. Students think or work better, under pressure. I have that song stuck in my head, “Ice Ice Baby” singing ‘Under Pressure’. When they work under pressure, either they get tired and fall asleep in the class while taking a test or use the mouth drool as the answer. Do they learn how to read and write and then summarize it?

Did you know that some teenagers use the internet to solve algebraic problems? Just type in the equation and the answer is solved. What’s wrong with solving by hand and understand how to do it? Algebra is supposed to be easy, even a fifth grader can solve it.

We use algebraic everyday in our lives, like how many French fries can be used when there’s a crowd of 40 people in line? You need more. One basket French Fries would not help.

Or how fast can a bullet travel when leaving from a gun? That’s a calculus problem. My niece wanted to be cop or a CSI agent. She loves watching CSI on CBS. However, it’s hard work to be a cop or CSI agent. We got to have math and science.

When a teenager tells an adult to Google it, Yahoo it or Bing it. They are not being as smart as they are supposed to be. The student should figure it out. They are supposed to learn and put it in their brain. The student should learn how to read and find out things. Analyze and use their critical-thinking skills to see if they are smart enough to pass the class for the third time in the sixth grade!

If they could understand relationship problems with their friends or boyfriend/girlfriend, they could use the same principle in reading a book. What are the character motivations in the book? Is Bella Swan really pregnant? Would she have baby werewolves or vampire babies?

Adults don’t care. They have to work and make money. Teenagers don’t care they are either texting to their friends, and their spelling is awful when they text. Have they taken English classes? They are using improper grammar while texting – spell out the words!

A teenage mind is full of tricks, don’t waste your time pranking an adult. The student would wind up in jail for doing something stupid – let that be a lesson. Enjoy prison food and the toilet is right next to the bed – remember to close the lid before going to sleep.

Here’s My Commencement Speech Would Say

Every year we have someone in our community to give an inspiration speech to you. And I am one of them. We want you to get out and find what you want to do. We can sit here and listen to me, but don’t leave yet. I have some inspiration words and a great story to follow.

Our parents worked very hard to give you tools to survive: Home, food, and shelter. Other tools we need are the computer and the internet. How can we communicate to the other people around the world? Traveling is good, but how can we get there. Money is tight. We need money to take us anywhere we can. We have to make the best of what we can do. We have resources all around us. The library is the best way to find our sources. If you can’t find on the internet, try the library. You can also read in the library, quietly. Shhh.

Teachers stop flirting with your students. And students stop flirting with teachers. We want an education not to see a different teacher every time we come to class in the morning. We look up to good teachers who taught us, not to flirt, but take it down a notch. We keep losing teachers because they can’t perform in the class room. Use your resources and bring it to class and share it with your students. Teachers we have to be creative in the classroom.

Students please pay attention to your teacher. They are trying to teach you something new to you. They are training you to be the best and bring out your talent and use that talent.

What can be more drastic in the school, and it will never change is our behavior in the classroom. Behavior is a distraction to the education. We have to stop and pay respect to the students who passed on and talk about it, to learn our lesson that bullying is a crime. It can hurt relationships with one another.

Stop whining and complaining and let the teachers teach you. Education is no joke.  We want to be smart and intelligent in the real-world  to-day. We have to keep up in the world today and stay ahead with our competition. Dress for success, pull up your pants, wear something appropriate to school. Be a good leader. Show us what you can do.

We can be individual. Speaking up is good, but we have to choose our words wisely and carefully, think before speak, don’t insult your neighbor and friend. Look for solutions and apply yourself.

Be good and stay smart and have fun. If you make a mistake, try again, and don’t make the same mistake once.  You have one shot to do it right.

To the graduate class, venture in your new adventure. At the end of your adventure write a book and share it to the world what you have accomplished.

Here’s a video of Ellen DeGeneres at Tulane University during a commencement speech

First Day of School

First day of school and the children are ready to learn and make new friends, maybe they have their own friends since grade school, which is good. Keeping old friends are great.

The first day of teachers is the first day of learning, with the class room all decorated to make it cozy and comfortable for the students is always great to stimulate the mind to get a good education. However, what’s the best way to engage learning in the class room these days, make it as a game. We have the game show network take some ideas from them and incorporate in your lesson plan. Students love a little competition and make them learn the fun way. Any subject would do.

When teachers get their degree from their university or college, they were taught to teach the student and the subject matter they are specialized in and also to help the students to be a good citizen in the community area.

Teachers have to be creative in a class room; teachers have to engage and motivate the students for good behavior, if they have done bad tell them do “Try again” and smile. Teachers can be friendly with the student in a good way, but if the student constantly misbehaves in class, teachers have to give them choices. Having a sexual choice is no-way-done-deal. There are millions of teachers in the America, who are teaching and teachers make the wrong choice for their students. Teachers should know if they make a deal with the student with a sexual favor, and the students promise they would never ever tell.  Think again, somewhere  down the road, they would tell and ruin the teacher’s career. Do not do this, just expel the student from the campus and make them think of their consequences of action they have done. Take it to the board of education. Don’t ruin your career. Ruin the student’s life, they need a lesson on dignity. They are still young they need a lesson on life.

The Bully Project and Smart Project

Everyone get’s bullied at school even I was bullied too, and what do bullies learned, either; they might be a better leader  or work as a car mechanic,  I think not, but they would have trouble in a relationship and marriage. Look at the high risk of divorce rates these days.

Bullies will never learn, they will stay like bullies until they get arrested, and then they found out the hard way: “Why was I arrested?” He was bullying the other person for no apparently reason. Even though this bully was a teenager, he has no cognitive of thinking of what’s right and wrong – just poking and abusing, and possible killing his victim. 20 years later this bully would apologize to the victim’s parents, isn’t it too late.  Why let the bully out of prison or rehab? Have they seen movies on Lifetime Network, we let the bullies out, and they go back and get revenge, sounds like a movie of the week?  Where’s the justice?

Over l3 million American kids will be bullied this year, making it the most common form of violence experienced by young people in the nation. The new documentary film BULLY, directed by Sundance and Emmy-award winning filmmaker Lee Hirsch, brings human scale to this startling statistic, offering an intimate, unflinching look at how bullying has touched five kids and their families.

BULLY is a beautifully cinematic, character-driven documentary. At its heart are those with huge stakes in this issue whose stories each represent a different facet ofAmerica’s bullying crisis. Filmed over the course of the 2009/2010 school year, BULLY opens a window onto the pained and often endangered lives of bullied kids, revealing a problem that transcends geographic, racial, ethnic and economic borders. It documents the responses of teachers and administrators to aggressive behaviors that defy “kids will be kids” clichés, and it captures a growing movement among parents and youths to change how bullying is handled in schools, in communities and in society as a whole.

The movie follows five people, Alex, 12; Kelby 16; Ja’Meya, 14; David and Tina Long and Kirk and Laura Smalley. There stories are powerful, raw and true. The language may not be suitable to teenagers but they hear it at school anyway. Where else could they learn?

I think teachers should be more responsible for their students in class, like parents are more responsible for their child.

Giving the movie no rating, is a good thing, students, parents, teachers and administration of the education board should see what the parents goes through to protect their child. It’s a nightmare for the parents. The administrations are happy because they get a good salary and they don’t care about the students. The only thing they care is how to raise reading and math scores? The teachers are trying to educate their students, but evidently fights break out during the school year and that cause distraction and suspension of  good students and bad students. Are these students learning anything? Especially, repeat students who go to detention every day. Do they learn anything or do they get it, why there are in detention? It’s a vacation for the students. Doesn’t make any sense.

Why the students are complaining to the teachers of too much homework?  How can students learn if they don’t do their homework? Writing stupid answers on the test paper does not count as a grade, it’s a creative answer, but it’s an idiot’s answer to a smart question. Does that count as being smart? They have to read their assignments and memorize important facts. If they think, they don’t need the course out there in the real world? Then how can they solve a complex word problem? We use word problems every day.

If the students can solve complex relationship problems between boyfriend and girlfriend why can’t they solve a complex math problem?  Or any complex subject.  Stay in school and learn something.  Nothing is given to the student by hand or by spoon. They have to learn to earn a grade. Use their critical thinking in a good way, by researching the materials, the library is a great source not the internet.

Oh by the way, The Bully Project opens tonight nationwide check your listings.

Writing Papers for Classes

How many times you have said this “Whew, I have done it” you have finished all your papers for your classes at the end of the semester in the fall at your university. If you were smart enough, you can do your papers ahead of time and turn it on time. Why turned it in early? What happens if you have an idea that pops into your head, and you already turned it in and wanted to add something originally, and the paper you turned early missed a few points? That’s not a good idea.

Well, you probably noticed I haven’t blogged enough on my blog only a few interesting blogs I have posted. I have been working on my Master degree in library science through ECU (EastCarolinaUniversity) [I hope I pass my classes] and sometimes professors online they give you many reading materials to read either online materials or books – which is a lot.

I have taken two courses online, which is the minimum. We can only take two classes online. Fall or Spring is the best time to take two courses or more. It depends on your online advisor of what you can do and lots of time management for a student in a college and university.

Summer time, I would take one course because it’s the summer time, and we need to go to the beach and have fun. And since we are taking one class remember the due date of the assignments, never turned it the assignment late – points can be taken off even if it is late. Don’t procrastinate and write a paper overnight.  Do it ahead of time and proofread it. In case an idea pops into your head it can be added.

Sometime it’s nice to break in between the courses. If you finished one of them early before the due date and the second one too before the due date, take a break. Sleep early and get a good night sleep. Then turn in the assignment on time, if you need to add something in the paper, and then do it. Do it quickly! And the next one too! You get ideas in your head. But how do we document ideas – I am having a Seinfeld moment.  Check your grammar and use the APA format and proper citation when writing any type of paper. Professors are somewhat picky of how we write papers. When writing papers we must write objective – this is no time to use humor in papers – only in blogs. Use an outline or a proposal outline when writing papers.

Did you know when writers write a book they have to submit a proposal paper to the literal agent and if the agent like it, then the author would write it? Make an outline and write the paper or book.
