Ninetieth Oscars: The Shape of Ebbing Missouri

Jimmy K

Did you watch the Ninetieth Oscar on Sunday night? The big winner was Shape of Water winning four awards which include Best Picture, Director, Production Design and best score.

Jimmy Kimmel was the perfect host. Unfortunately, the ratings were down, not because of Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the correct best picture with big fonts on the card. Will they come back again for the third time? Who knows?

Jimmy Kimmel and his actor friends that included Armie Hammer, Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong’o, Emily Blunt, Gal Gadot, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Margot Robbie left their seats in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles Sunday night to surprise the audience at the TCL Chinese Theatre, watching a preview of Wrinkle of Time coming out March 9, 2018, that was fun a surprise.

According to Deadline the highest ratings for the Oscars was back in 2014 when Ellen DeGeneres hosted. Will she do it again? Can she pull off surprise pranks as Jimmy Kimmel did?  Why do actors have to be hypocritical with the politics?

Sexual harassment is a big issue in the workplace and they waited for 10 to 20 years to tell?  And they ruin lives of other actors.

And women are not being recognized in the entertainment business. It’s a harsh world out there just to be recognized for what they do for a living. They sacrificed everything to tell a story just to be accepted. Even actors they worked so hard to study their craft of acting and end up with sexual harassment. It’s a tough job; nothing is easy these days. Actors have to be careful these days. It’s a new world out there.

Frances McDormand

Sam Rockwell

Big winners such as Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell for leading actress and actor for Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri, which was filmed in Sylvia, North Carolina. Frances McDormand lost her Oscar award, she put a billboard sign and got it back. Apparently, some craze fans wanted a prize too.

Visual effects and Cinematography went to Blade Runner2049.

90th Academy Awards - Show, Los Angeles, USA - 04 Mar 2018

Kobey Bryant won for Best Animated Short Film for Dear Basketball with Glen Keane.

Jordan Peele

Jordan Peele won for Best Original Screenplay for Get Out.

Gary Oldman for best actor in the Darkest Hour the story of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. And it won for make-up too.

Here’s the list of the winners

If you like awards shows like I do, It’s fun to see our favorites to win. Maybe people tune out awards show because they do not want to hear actors talk about politics. Awards show needs to be fun and entertaining. More like a three-ring circus.

Will the Emmys be fun and entertaining?

Selena Gomez is Fine

selena-gomez 2

Selena Gomez is feeling just fine; she underwent surgery to receive a kidney from her best friend Raisa, she’s a star from “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

According, to Selena Gomez, when she was being interviewed on the Ellen DeGeneres show back in 2015, she said: “It’s an autoimmune disease, which means it is the result of the immune system attacking normal tissue.”

What Is Lupus? The immune system is designed to attack foreign substances in the body. If you have lupus, something goes wrong with your immune system, and it attacks healthy cells and tissues. This can damage many parts of the body such as the:  Joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood vessels, brain.

Raisa met Selena back in 2007 when they were a part of a group of Disney and ABC Family, and they started to visit the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

“I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life but changed mine in the process,” Raisa said. “This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story.”

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” said Gomez. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”

Here’s My Commencement Speech Would Say

Every year we have someone in our community to give an inspiration speech to you. And I am one of them. We want you to get out and find what you want to do. We can sit here and listen to me, but don’t leave yet. I have some inspiration words and a great story to follow.

Our parents worked very hard to give you tools to survive: Home, food, and shelter. Other tools we need are the computer and the internet. How can we communicate to the other people around the world? Traveling is good, but how can we get there. Money is tight. We need money to take us anywhere we can. We have to make the best of what we can do. We have resources all around us. The library is the best way to find our sources. If you can’t find on the internet, try the library. You can also read in the library, quietly. Shhh.

Teachers stop flirting with your students. And students stop flirting with teachers. We want an education not to see a different teacher every time we come to class in the morning. We look up to good teachers who taught us, not to flirt, but take it down a notch. We keep losing teachers because they can’t perform in the class room. Use your resources and bring it to class and share it with your students. Teachers we have to be creative in the classroom.

Students please pay attention to your teacher. They are trying to teach you something new to you. They are training you to be the best and bring out your talent and use that talent.

What can be more drastic in the school, and it will never change is our behavior in the classroom. Behavior is a distraction to the education. We have to stop and pay respect to the students who passed on and talk about it, to learn our lesson that bullying is a crime. It can hurt relationships with one another.

Stop whining and complaining and let the teachers teach you. Education is no joke.  We want to be smart and intelligent in the real-world  to-day. We have to keep up in the world today and stay ahead with our competition. Dress for success, pull up your pants, wear something appropriate to school. Be a good leader. Show us what you can do.

We can be individual. Speaking up is good, but we have to choose our words wisely and carefully, think before speak, don’t insult your neighbor and friend. Look for solutions and apply yourself.

Be good and stay smart and have fun. If you make a mistake, try again, and don’t make the same mistake once.  You have one shot to do it right.

To the graduate class, venture in your new adventure. At the end of your adventure write a book and share it to the world what you have accomplished.

12 Years a slave and Gravity tops Awards

Lupita Nyong'o

12 years a slave wins for best picture while Gravity wins seven for technical awards in achievement in film.

Steve McQueen’s slavery odyssey, based on Solomon Northup’s 1853 memoir, has been hailed as a landmark corrective to the movie industry’s long omission of slavery stories and years of whiter tales like 1940 best-picture winner “Gone With the Wind.”

Steve McQueen accepted the award for best picture, even though he did not get Best Director. His producer partner and actor was Brad Pitt was involved and one of the producer team.

“Everyone deserves not just to survive, but to live,” said McQueen, who promptly bounced into the arms of his cast. “This is the most important legacy of Solomon Northup.”

Gravity Director 3 5 2014

“Gravity” cleaned up in technical categories, earning seven Oscars including best director for Alfonso Cuaron. The Mexican filmmaker is the category’s first Latino winner.

Good, we need diversity in the film industry. We have great directors out there willing to produce some great entertaining movies for us to watch and make us think. We do have a lot of junk in space and the race to clean space takes time and money. So that’s where our money is going. Cleaning up space, that’s a good thing.

“It was a transformative experience,” said Cuaron, who spent some five years making the film and developing its visual effects. “For a lot of people, that transformation was wisdom. For me, it was the color of my hair.”

Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey

The awards for best actor and actress went to Matthew McConaughey, for his role as a desperate and determined AIDS patient in “Dallas Buyers Club,” and Cate Blanchett for playing a fragile socialite experiencing a meltdown in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine.”

Lupita Nyong’o, the breakout star of “12 Years a Slave,” accepted the award for best supporting actress. In her feature film debut, the 31-year-old actress made an indelible impression as the tortured slave Patsey.

“It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s, and so I want to salute the spirit of Patsey for her guidance,” said Nyong’o. She also thanked director Steve McQueen: “I’m certain that the dead are standing about you and they are watching and they are grateful, and so am I.”

She added, “When I look down at this golden statue may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”

Jared Leto won best supporting actor for his acclaimed performance as a transgender woman with AIDS in “Dallas Buyers Club.” He dedicated the award to his mother, his date for the evening. “Thank you for teaching me to dream,” he said.

Other winners included “The Great Gatsby” for best costume design and production design, and best makeup and hairstyling for the low-budget “Dallas Buyers Club.” “The Great Beauty,” an Italian film hailed as an ode to Federico Fellini’s 1960 film “La Dolce Vita,” won best foreign language film.

Oscar Selfie 2 2014

Ellen DeGeneres  was an excellent host tonight, she kept it moving. I hope she host it again or have Jay Leno to host it, he needs a job.

The talk-show host quickly circulated in the audience, delivering pizza and appealing to Harvey Weinstein to pitch in on the bill. She also crowded in as many stars as she could in hopes of generating the most-tweeted photo ever. Meryl Streep giddily exclaimed: “I’ve never tweeted before!” The resulting image had been retweeted more than 1.5 million times — and counting. I couldn’t see it. Twitter crashed.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence stumbled over a cone while walking out of her limousine at the 86th Academy Awards, marking the second year the “Hunger Games” star has had a slip-up at the Oscars. She needs a guy with her to hold her up, where was her brother at?

During her opening monologue, this year’s host Ellen DeGeneres made light of Lawrence’s stumbles.

“If you win tonight, I think we should bring you the Oscar,” DeGeneres joked.

Lawrence was up for an Academy Award at this year’s ceremony in the best supporting actress category, for her portrayal of a New Jersey housewife in “American Hustle,” also directed by Russell and co-starring Cooper. She lost out to “12 Years A Slave” star Lupita Nyong’o.

In Memoriam, again still the Oscars has left some great actors that passed away between 2013 – 2014, and they were:  Marcia Wallace, Lisa Robin Kelly, Lee Thompson Young, Phil Everly, Phil Ramone, Lou Reed, Pete Seeger, Dennis Farina, Gary David Goldberg, Alicia Rhett, Alain Resnais, Jim Jacks, Clive Burr, Cory Monteith,  James Avery and Wizard of Oz’s Ruth Robinson Duccini (which is ironic given the film’s tribute earlier on in the evening). Maybe they have time restrains and put only recognizable people in the acting and entertainment community.

Since, the Oscar was broadcast at eight thirty, eastern time, they could have started early like eight. And the Thank you speech could be cut in half.

‘General Hospital’ wins Daytime Emmys and it is still on ABC

As you may know the Daytime Emmys were shown this weekend, it wasn’t on CBS but on HLN. If anyone was looking for it, good luck in finding the show. It was seen, if you were watching HLN on Sunday night, then it is good.

NBC’s “Today show” won for the best morning show, it was competing with “Good Morning America” what happened to CBS’s Early Today show. It did not compete?

Heather Tom won for the best lead actress for CBS “The Bold and The Beautiful,” great for her. She was once on “The Young and the Restless”  long ago, but made the transition to “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

Anthony Geary won as the lead actor in “General Hospital,” so did Nancy Lee Grahn for supporting actress and supporting actor Jonathan Jackson. “General Hospital” won for the directing team, it’s the only soap opera on ABC that is left.

My favorite show “Dr Oz” was named the best informative talk show. I still get my free medical advice from his show, and I am still living, and writing this article.

Bill Geddie, longtime associate of Barbara Walters and executive producer of “The View”, received the life achievement award.

“There’s not a lot of glamour and glory in daytime,” Geddie told the room in his acceptance remarks. “But when you think about it, we’re all here with the best of intentions: We just love making TV!”, which is true. How else where can we get our news – the internet?

Please do not broadcast the award shows through the internet, it is meant for TV and TV only.

The Daytime Emmy Award was broadcasts at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the death of Whitney Houston passed away a few months ago at the same hotel. They should have broad cast some place else in the area not where a murder/ suicide has taken place.  More tragic news happened to this hotel just day before the Daytime Emmys were awarded.

Breaking Dawn part 1: Bite the Bride

Breaking Dawn will become the biggest blockbuster movie since Titanic. It’s an epic love story between a Vampire and Werewolf, Edward and Jacob, who will get Bella Swan. In other words, who will keep her warm? Well, Vampires are dead and cold, while the werewolf is always warm. She can’t decide?

Bella and Edward, plus those they love, must deal with the chain of consequences brought on by a marriage, honeymoon, and the tumultuous birth of a child which brings an unforeseen and shocking development for Jacob Black.

With only four books in Stephenie Meyer’s chart-busting series (as opposed to the seven Harry Potters), the people behind the “Twilight” movies can be forgiven for stretching out the screen experience for as long as possible. The movie is two hours long and is much better than, two hours and 30 minutes. Is there an intermission I must pee?! The movie is approximately two hours.

(“Breaking Dawn” 2 hits next November.) And, after all, so much does happen in this movie, which takes the arc of human experience — birth and death and everything in between — and works it up into a rich, sudsy lather. In the past, Bella (played with increasing confidence by Kristen Stewart) has been almost eclipsed by Edward (Robert Pattinson),  his bloodsucking brood and their battles. Here, though, she returns as the emotional and psychological cornerstone in a series in which the center of gravity has shifted from frenzied action and reaction to love.

When part two comes out next November 2012 can vampire’s age? Something may be different. If you read Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga books, it’s like a mini-series franchise movie, maybe in the future deluxe DVD’s set of the movie. Don’t buy it now, just wait until it comes out in a set, buying it individual may be good, it’s up to you.

Did you know they had to re-edit some scenes? It was the love making scenes? It got pretty hot and someone dropped the boom mike on Kristen Steward’s head. Sorry. I got excited.

And I couldn’t find the Ellen DeGeneres in the movie. I know, it was a parody she spoofed on the show. However, there was a bathroom scene with Bella and Edward in it.

Be sure stay after the movie when the credit rolled, there’s a surprised at the end.

Overall it was a must go movie of the week. It was fantastic to watch. The visual and the cinematography of the movie are splendid to watch.
