It’s Vegas and do you know what that means, so what stays in Vegas stays in Vegas? Well not actually for American Idol. They hold another audition in Vegas and this time the theme was the 1950s and 1960s music. This ought to be good right? And they would be singing in groups again a smaller group of three to four people. Let’s not party too much because there’s work to be done in becoming American Idol.

Skyler Laine, Colton Dixon, Cari Quoyeser, and Chase Likens they sang “”Dedicated To The One I Love” and they are looking great tonight for the judges.  The judges told Cari that she sounded shaky and weak, the rest of the group sounded great and going to the next round.

David Leathers Jr, Jeremy Rosado Gabi Carrubba and Ariel Sprague sang “Rockin Robin” they all sang great and going to the next round.

The next group Adam Brock rocks on the piano, Erika Van Pelt spunky and high with energy, Angie Zeiderman in her Broadway number, and Shelby Tweten all sang “Great Balls of  Fire”  it was good, but not that very good.

Schyler Dixon and Brielle von Hugel sang “Why do fools fall in love” it was good. It had taken Steven Tyler to dream land when he heard the song before. They were both good.

Reed Grimm, Elise Testone, Eben Franckewitz and Haley Johnson, they all sang “The Night has 1,000 Eyes.” Speaking of eyes, Reed Grimm is getting attention nowadays about his impromptu performance the other night, that he did on the drums. He was good.  Elise Testone is unique and powerful but needs to take a face-wipe to that caked-on makeup disaster. Eben Franckewitz he’s getting there, he has a great voice. He will get by. Haley Johnson is nothing special… until the last 10 seconds of the song where she kills it.

Jessica Sanchez, Candice Glover, and Deandre Brackensick sang “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” “Three very different voices, coming together and making a very beautiful sound,” says J. Lo; the judges were sold from the start, and they all survive.

The baritone boys Jermaine Jones and Richie law sang “Breaking Up is Hard to Do”  They were paired up because they had previously been rejected by everyone else.  I wonder why? Their voices were blending in perfectly. They were safe.

Scott Dangerfield, Clayton Farhat, Adam Decker, Curtis Gray this foursome clads in leather jackets and stripped tees, sang “Jailhouse Rock” by Elvis Priestley. Their harmony was great except for one Curtis Gary was sent home early.

Courtney Williams, Britnee Kellogg, and Jessica Phillps wore holy pink sequins and sang “You Keep Me Hanging On” the judges weren’t convinced the song was right for them, and they weren’t hanging on, other wise it was their song choice. Courtney and Britnee were safe. Jessica Phillips is going home.

Lauren Gray, Wendy Taylor and Mathenee Treeco sang “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” Lauren Gray got soul. Her soul was like Amy Winehouse. Wendy Taylor turns out to be great. Mathenee Treco is the weakest link. Goodbye!

Heejun Han, Neco Star, Jarion Jackson, and Phil Phillips sang “I Only Have Eyes for You.” Heejun Han was a little nervous and timid and peed in his pants after Peggy, the vocal coach, yelled at him. It’s nice to have a clean underwear and pants on standby. He’s definitely a favorite, and I hope he stayed. All guys sang great, a bit of stumble in the pitches, but the voices were great. So they were safe.

Jen Hirsh, Creighton Fraker, Aaron Marcellus, and Nick Boddington  sang “Seal with a Kiss”  and their group name was unique “Lady and the Spectacles,” the guys wore glasses, and they were absolutely fantastic, great voices and good harmonies. But apparently the judges decided the Nick Boddington the least impressive of the four is going home.

Just when we think, it’s over, all the groups that have previously been sent through must take the stage, where more cuts will be made. It’s cruel and unusual punishment! Almost like an employer giving someone an amazing job offer and then being like, “actually, we take that back.” We’re not particularly devastated about any of the cuts, except for one, for Schyler Dixon — whose brother Colton made it through.

They have slimmed down to a solid 42 contestants.
