Ninetieth Oscars: The Shape of Ebbing Missouri

Jimmy K

Did you watch the Ninetieth Oscar on Sunday night? The big winner was Shape of Water winning four awards which include Best Picture, Director, Production Design and best score.

Jimmy Kimmel was the perfect host. Unfortunately, the ratings were down, not because of Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the correct best picture with big fonts on the card. Will they come back again for the third time? Who knows?

Jimmy Kimmel and his actor friends that included Armie Hammer, Mark Hamill, Lupita Nyong’o, Emily Blunt, Gal Gadot, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Margot Robbie left their seats in the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles Sunday night to surprise the audience at the TCL Chinese Theatre, watching a preview of Wrinkle of Time coming out March 9, 2018, that was fun a surprise.

According to Deadline the highest ratings for the Oscars was back in 2014 when Ellen DeGeneres hosted. Will she do it again? Can she pull off surprise pranks as Jimmy Kimmel did?  Why do actors have to be hypocritical with the politics?

Sexual harassment is a big issue in the workplace and they waited for 10 to 20 years to tell?  And they ruin lives of other actors.

And women are not being recognized in the entertainment business. It’s a harsh world out there just to be recognized for what they do for a living. They sacrificed everything to tell a story just to be accepted. Even actors they worked so hard to study their craft of acting and end up with sexual harassment. It’s a tough job; nothing is easy these days. Actors have to be careful these days. It’s a new world out there.

This is one of the best sequels to the prequels of the Planet of the Apes series. However, will they grow and evolve to be walking and talking apes?

The first film of the Planet of the Apes stared Charleston Heston as George Taylor and Roddy McDowall as Cornelius and  Caesa (son). The Planet of the Apes was based by Pierre Boulle’s original novel. They chronicle the fall of humanity and the rise of intelligent apes through their points of view. The first film was co-written by Rod Serling, creator of The Twilight Zone and Night Gallery.

In 2001, Planet of the Apes, a remake of the original 1968 film was released. Directed by Tim Burton, it featured an entirely new interpretation of Boulle’s novel and state-of-the-art visual effects and makeup for the apes. It did good, but not so good.

The plot for the “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” is ten years later, genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species. The humans needed help from the apes to power the dam for electricity. The apes weren’t thinking why the humans need electricity, but electricity is the source of survival and writing movie reviews. Apes do not need it, but that’s how the apes survive in the woods, nature. I saw the movie in 3D the action came close to me and I had a monkey on my back.

Great writing team and story idea from the writing team of Mark Bomback, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver. The story is set in the future from the last movie they did together. And it is directed by Matt Reeves. He also wrote and directed “Let Me In”. He directed “Cloverfield.” Reeves and Abrams co-created the TV series Felicity, in which he cast Kerri Russell.

In 2012, it was announced that Reeves will direct a movie based on the classic hit TV series The Twilight Zone. He said that the film will have one main story that could relate to the original series. The film was about to develop in summer 2013 but Reeves left the project for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

So go see it, you won’t be disappointed. In the beginning of the movie a big bang.
