Will Smith slapped Chris Rock over an insulting joke to his wife

Have you heard Ariana Debose won for West Side Story with Rita Moreno at her side and blessing? Jane Campion won Best Director for Netflix’s Power of the Dog. Kostur became the first deaf man to win the supporting actor award; his CODA  co-star Marlee Matlin won Best Actress in 1987. And Will Smith slapped Chris  Rock!

Wow, and a loud slap was sounded around the world. What did Will Smith do? Chris Rock told an offensive joke to Will Smith’s wife, Jada, in which she is bald. But Chris Rock did not know that was a disease; she had Alopecia areata. Oops. Oops is one thing. Will Smith laughed at the Joke, and his wife Jada gave him the stink eye because it wasn’t funny for her, and he realized Chris was talking about Jada’s bald look. Then discovered, Will Smith got up and slapped Chris Rock across his face. Will Smith cursed at Chris Rock, too, and he was insulted.

Will Smith could have thrown a carrot, tomato, or lettuce. Or, better yet, a salad dressing at Chris Rock that would make him stop. Comedians are used to hecklers, and Chris is a comedian. He went off script and did not read the teleprompter as instructed. He wanted to liven up the crowd; that’s what comedians do. They make good hosts. Chris Rock won’t be back to host any awards show coming soon to TV.

Amy Schumer dressed up like spiderman; why didn’t she spring up or use her spider senses to stop the commotion on stage. Instead, she had a costume change and missed what had happened. Better late than ever.

Later in the evening, Will Smith accepted the Oscar for Best Actor for King Richard, streaming now. Please check your streaming service. It’s a terrific movie.

Backstage, Chris Rock was stunned and shocked about the whole situation. LAPD asked him if he wanted to file charges against Will Smith. Chris said, “No.'”

Jessica Chastin took the best actress for the role for The Eyes of Tammy Fay and the team of Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Kenneth Branagh won Best Original Screenplay for Belfast (2021); it’s magnificent if you haven’t seen it. He also directed Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, and he plays Hercule Poirot. Great movie.

The six Oscars won by Dune tonight came in the crafts categories: Visual Effects, Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Sound, and Score (except Cinematography and Visual Effects, which were presented during the pre-show).

The James Bond movie “No Time To Die” by Billy Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won the Best Original Song award.

By the way, I am a film buff too.
