Movies that we can’t wait to see in 2015

1 / 18

Here are the movies that are coming out this year in 2015. So get ready because these movies will come to a theater near you.

Jupiter Ascending

Feb. 6, 2015

Channing Tatum plays an intergalactic hit man who comes to Earth to protect Mila Kunis who, unbeknownst to her, is the queen of the universe. While it might sound cheesy, it’s exciting to see a big-budget action movie that isn’t based on a pre-existing franchise. Originality is a rare treat. I bet the ladies will watch this.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Feb. 13, 2015

Just looking at this film’s pedigree, you can’t help but get excited. It’s directed by the man who brought us X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, and it’s based on a graphic novel by the writer who created Kick-Ass and Wanted. Plus, it stars Colin Firth as an action hero super spy!

50 Shades of Grey

February 13 2015

When Anastasia Steele, a literature student, goes to interview the wealthy Christian Grey, as a favor to her roommate Kate Kavanagh, she encounters a beautiful, brilliant and intimidating man. The innocent and naive Ana started to realize she wants him, despite his enigmatic reserve and advice, she finds herself desperate to get close to him. Not able to resist Ana’s beauty and independent spirit, Christian Grey admits he wants her too, but in his own terms. Ana hesitates as she discovers the singular tastes of Christian Grey – despite of the embellishments of success, his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family – Grey is consumed by the need to control everything.  I just got aroused by writing this summary. Down boy, Down.

Focus

Feb. 27, 2015

Will Smith and Margot Robbie star as con-artists who get in over their head when they fall in love. While Margot Robbie was great in The Wolf of Wall Street, we’re most excited to see Will Smith go quasi-bad for a role. It gets us amped up to see his performance in Suicide Squad in 2016.

Chappie

March 6, 2015

While director Neill Blomkamp’s last offering, Elysium, left a lot to be desired, his debut feature, District 9, is still one of the best sci-fi films of the last decade. And it looks like Chappie – a film about a robot who learns how to be human by growing up in a dysfunctional family full of low-level criminals – could rival District 9’s incredible storytelling. This is one to watch for.

Tomorrowland

May 22, 2015

Britt Robertson and George Clooney star in this action-packed Disney film about a place out of time and space that gives us a glimpse of a super-futuristic world of science and wonder. Also, from the trailer, it looks like it has a pretty poignant political message.

San Andreas

May 29, 2015

Sure, it seems like it’s just a scaled-down version of 2012, but it stars Dwayne Johnson and Paul Giamatti, and it’s always fun to just watch them act for two hours. Add in some exploding dams and helicopter thrills and you’ve got yourself the quintessential popcorn flick. Great an Earthquake movie or a natural disaster movie. Take notes.

Entourage

June 5, 2015

Well… we’ve watched all eight seasons of the show… so it only seems logical to see the movie right? Even if it does look like it’s just one long episode. Which I totally agree. A two hour movie about a TV show.  The TV series was much better. Maybe straight to DVD in a month.

Inside Out

June 19, 2015

Made by Pixar! Do we need to say more? How about the fact that it stars the vocal talents of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, and Mindy Kaling? It examines the emotions that all work together inside everyone’s brains, and it looks as touching and adorable as everything Pixar produces.

Ant-Man

July 17, 2015

Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas star in this hotly anticipated Marvel superhero movie which features a con-man (Rudd) who comes across a high-tech suit that allows him to shrink in size but increase in strength. Also, he fights bad guys. Really, all we needed to hear was that Paul Rudd is starring. And really a super ant? Wow, will it leap tall buildings in one jump or over an anthill!

Pan

July 24, 2015

Reimagining of the Peter Pan mythos are always rather entertaining, but what really looks great about this film is Hugh Jackman’s bizarre, vampire-like portrayal of the Neverland pirate Blackbeard. Also, Garrett Hedlund, who stars as Hook, seems to be doing his best impression of Heath Ledger playing The Joker. Remember it is not a musical. And no dancing. If you consider sword fighting as dancing, it’s a movie!

The Fantastic Four

Aug. 7, 2015

Sure, the first few times they adapted this comic series to the big screen it ended in total disappointment, but now we get to see Jamie Bell play The Thing! Also, Michael B. Jordan is in it, and we simply cannot miss a Michael B. Jordan performance. In other words, it’s a reboot of the first movie. And sequels will come too.

The Hateful Eight

Nov. 13, 2015

This new western from Quentin Tarantino got us excited when the script leaked a few months ago. And after being told that it would never be brought to the screen we are now going to get to see it this year. As Django Unchained proved, Tarantino knows his way around a western, and this could become an instant classic.
